The idea
The body is a system of systems: genome, cells, tissues and organs, each with its own rules and all of them coupled. The DOHB project asks what it would take to describe that system well enough to compute with it, and to use that description to keep people well.
Why now
- Molecules. Structure prediction made proteins computable; Isomorphic Labs now designs drugs largely in silico.
- Code. CRISPR made the genome editable, not just readable.
- Form. Michael Levin's work suggests shape and behaviour are not fully written in the genome. On his Platonic-space hypothesis, decoding the body also means mapping the patterns it draws on.
How it connects to my work
Several of my threads meet here: digital twins for a model of the body, graph models for biological networks, metagenomics for the microbiome we carry, and my health work with Ad Fontes Society. [One sentence on that work.]
